Frequently Asked Questions

What vaccines do we require?

We require current Bordetella, Distemper, and Rabies vaccinations, plus a negative fecal test completed within the past year to help keep every pup in our care as healthy as possible. Vaccine records must be received and verified before your dog’s arrival at our facility.

What is an evaluation?

An evaluation is a required temperament test to ensure your dog is comfortable and happy in our playgroups. Our trained and skilled handlers will watch the body language and behaviors of your pup to determine if we are a good fit for you. We have both boarding and daycare evaluations based on your needs. We require an evaluation for every pup that has not been in our care in the past year. Please call us at (859) 486-2196 if you are interested in setting up an evaluation.

My dog doesn’t interact well with others, is he still a good fit?
Being that we are an off-leash care facility, all dogs need to be able to socialize with other dogs and staff to be a good fit. We require a temperament evaluation for all new dogs wanting to participate in boarding and daycare.
How do we keep our facility clean?
Our daily cleaning protocols and procedures are unparalleled. We use veterinary-grade disinfectants to deep clean our floors, walls, and kennels every day. We have taken the extra steps of installing a UV sanitizing air system that helps eliminate airborne illness through our heating and air unit. Although our cleaning practices may not entirely prevent the transmission of bacteria or viruses through nose-to-nose contact, ensuring a pristine facility is our utmost priority.
Is there a chance my dog could contract an illness while visiting Allie’s Walkabout?
Yes. Similar to children in a school setting, dogs in a social environment can transmit contagious diseases to one another. A common example is commonly known as “Canine Cough” or Bordetella, an easily spread upper-respiratory illness passed through nose-to-nose contact. Its typical symptoms include a persistent cough, sometimes accompanied by sneezing and nasal discharge. Despite vaccinating your dog with the Bordetella vaccine, like a flu shot for humans, there’s still a chance your pet could contract the virus, although vaccination helps reduce the severity of symptoms. Along with Canine Cough, other unavoidable illnesses may pass between canine friends, but rest assured our trained staff diligently monitor and promptly address any emerging symptoms to ensure a safe environment.
Can my dog be injured during boarding or daycare stay?
While we take extensive precautions to ensure your dog’s safety during their boarding or daycare stay, there’s always a small inherent risk of injury in any environment where multiple dogs interact. Our trained staff continuously supervise the dogs and employ measures to prevent accidents, but despite our best efforts, minor incidents can occasionally occur in social settings. Our team is committed to promptly addressing any issues and providing immediate care in the unlikely event of an injury.
What is “peak date pricing”?

Similar to airlines, hotels, and car rental companies, our boarding services witness a substantial surge in demand on specific days annually. These peak periods encompass holidays, school breaks, and weekends throughout July & August. During these times, a $5 Peak Date fee is applicable per dog, per night. Allie’s Walkabout is staffed 24/7 – holidays included. This charge enables us to compensate our staff at time-and-a-half rates on many of the peak rate days.

Do you have live cameras?
To prioritize the safety and privacy of our predominantly female staff, we have opted not to feature live feed cameras on the internet. We warmly welcome visits for tours between 10 AM and 3 PM Monday through Saturday. Additionally, our front lobby showcases a monitor displaying real-time play yard footage, providing customers with a comprehensive view of our facility and their dogs.
Am I allowed to call to check in on my dog?
Definitely! We completely understand the concern and encourage you to reach out. Please keep in mind that our front desk team is only available during open lobby hours but rest assured, any significant concerns will prompt us to get in touch with you. Our facility is staffed 24/7 to ensure constant care.
My dog is drinking/eating/sleeping excessively when they get home, is this normal?
Pups in our care always have access to fresh water during group play, which is 70% of the day! It’s common for dogs to consume less water in our stimulating environment, much like how humans might drink or eat less when engaged in something new or exciting. Similar to how changes in surroundings may influence water intake, eating and sleeping routines might also be impacted. We monitor and record each feeding, but some pups may eat less than normal while they are away from home. Drinking, eating, sleeping in excess after a stay with us is normal behavior and nothing to be concerned about.
